Read excerpts from Dr. Synan's account of the Brownsville Revival:
On Father's Day, June 18, 1995, a monumental revival broke out under the preaching of Kilpatrick's friend, Steve Hill...That day, hundreds of people refused to leave the church after an altar brought a thousand people to the front to seek salvation. Then strange manifestations began to occur....Many people fell out in the Spirit, while others shook violently or wept openly. Hill was asked to stay and continue the services. Every night for many months, thousands of people crowded into the church...
The preachers gave altar calls for salvation and people received baptism in the Holy Spirit with tongues as evidence. People also experienced diving healing. As the services continued week after week, young high school students carried the revival to their schools - to the consternation of some school administrators. So many teenagers and young adults were converted that the church opened a Bible school, the Brownsville Revival School of Ministry, which soon grew to more than a thousand students....
Instead of featuring and defending the more exotic manifestations, Hill centered his ministry on the altar calls for salvation of the unconverted or for the restoration of backsliders who had fallen away from the faith...
In the charismatic conference that I led in 2000, some eighteen thousand people registered from all the different churches. Again, half of the participants were Roman Catholics. I invited Steve Hill to give the altar call on the final night. It was an awesome sight as many thousands came forward to repeat the sinner's prayer for salvation....It was one of the most passionate and effective altar calls I'd ever seen in my life.
