Changed Lives

As I was sharing on prayer in my two-week series, I noticed people were writing, taking notes as fast as they could. We covered seven common causes for unanswered prayer, and I also mentioned several quotes on prayer from Leonard Ravenhill. In his book "Why Revival Tarries," Leonard Ravenhill shared numerous, pointed thoughts that are well worth noting. Some of these are being made available to you here.

"The secret of praying is praying in secret."
"A sinning man will stop praying, and a praying man will stop sinning."
"No man is greater than his prayer life."
"The pastor who is not praying is playing; the people who are not praying are straying."
"Men give advice, God gives guidance."

I also like these quotes from John Bunyan and Corrie Ten Boom:

"Prayer will make a man cease from sin, or sin will entice a man to cease from prayer." John Bunyan
"Is prayer your steering wheel, or your spare tire?" Corrie Ten Boom

I love the promise given to us in Psalm 55:17 - "Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud, and He shall hear me." He will hear us; God Himself is listening for our voice. Remember the words of Jesus in Mark 11:24 - "Jesus answered. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you will receive it, and it will be yours." Oh that we could truly see and understand the actual affects resulting from our prayers. If we could watch the action that goes on in the heavenlies over our circumstances and families, then I dare suggest we would always be praying. Heaven would hear the perpetual, constant echoes of our petitions being spoken to our Father.

Of course, prayer is more than just presenting our long list of needs to God. Andrew Murray said, "Some people pray just to pray; and some people pray to know God." What a privilege we have as children of the Most High God. He longs for us to pray 'just because' we are looking to know Him more deeply. Please get this into your heart and spirit today. We have direct access to the throne of God, and can commune with Him through prayer. The Lord desires to interact with His children through prayer just because He loves us. Wow.

Let me encourage you, if you haven't already done so, to set time aside; be quiet and still in His presence. Spend time in prayer, connecting with your Heavenly Father. He has great things in store for you!
